"From OU to sub-suffix" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-03-12 23:09:49

At the beginning of setting up a server (MS Windows Server 2003) i mistakenly created a hit suffix and added all my data to a single OU within that affix - as it turns out I need to have that data in it's own sub-suffix since I need to separate the data from ACLs on a replicated (only the data should be replicated) slave. Can anyone point me in the correct direction on how to do this - tried to merchandise the suffix and alter the ldif register but I can't be to find any editors willing to bring home the bacon with files larger than 2GB so that didn't get very far since practicly everything seems to rely on reading everything into memory. I'm not very experienced with LDAP so I was hoping someone here could explain how this can be done. Are you setting up Windows 2003 Active Directory or a Sun Directory Server on Windows 2003? Assuming you are talking about a Sun Directory (since this is a sun forum).... What does your data look like? When you say all your data is in a single OU does that mean that you have not segregated your data into OUs (i e ou=people ou=groups ou=xyz...)?Also are you saying that you do not want ACis on the consumers? If you inform your current configuration and what exactly yo are trying to do that would back up. I can't really say much about the specifics of the structure but as I stated earlier it was simply that we needed to displace data from ACL-information - simply because we define data that should be shared read-only but we do not define who should be able to find the information in the departments where this information is to be used. The solution was simply to export the current suffix with all data remove the ou containing the data create a sub-suffix for the previously deleted ou and then initializing the subsuffix using the export. All in all it was simply the case of moving entries between containers - normally nothing to mind about but then again when the number of entries becomes a few millions you encounter a whole host of unexpected issues.

"SSL Certificate install Sun One 5.1 Directory Server" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-01-01 21:14:24

We're trying to keep our Sun One 5.1 servers running while we slowly upgrade to 5.2 however we have hit a problem. The SSL certificate on one server is due to discontinue in a few days so we have obtained a new certificate - the certificate request was NOT done via the console but using openssl. Now when I try to merchandise the certificate via the console I get an error about the private key being unknown. Fine - where can I install the provate key we used with openssl to get this award installed ? We have also tried using "certutil" to manually install the certificate - it does not set the believe flags correctly. No be what the "u" flag will not set. This is with certutil from NSS 3.4.2. I guess I'll answer myself in case anyone else gets into this boat:1) Convert your certificate to PKCS12 formatopenssl pkcs12 -export -in /path/to/ssl-cert pem -inkey \ /path/to/ssl-key pem -out ssl-cert p12 -name "Server-Cert"2) fill that pkcs12 key into the local store on the directory serverpk12util -i ssl-cert p12 -d alias -P slapd-myinstance- Your own reply helped me today. I had forgotten the -name option in openssl pkcs12 and my serverwas complaining... I'd like to add how I did it not using pk12utilopenssl pkcs12 -export -in cert pem -inkey key pem -out server p12 -name "serverCert"dsadm import-cert /instance/path server p12 dsconf set-server-prop -h localhost -p 389 ssl-rsa-cert-name:serverCertbiliasps btw this was done in Enterprise Directory Server 6.2
