"First fruits of Game 3.0?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-11-13 12:18:39

that just popped up on Sony's PlayStation blog shows off a way to get users creating pieces of games. Basically you scan in objects on a white background and they become objects in some sort of game/program. Simple but effective. My older son has been drawing a lot lately and getting more sophisticated as he works at it. I would really love to be able to draw some characters with him and put them into a game we could play together. Heck how about just letting him use a prefabricated character to play in levels that he creates and scans into the PS3?Mostly Sony has let the whole Game 3.0 concept wither away but if this is what they plan to do with it count me in. Sony seems to be getting better about getting good ideas they develop out there. The people behind the original Eye Toy had great ideas and fantastic tech demos 5 years ago but Sony sat on it. I think with Wii and DS out doing well they demonstrates that the technology Sony has in-house can be used for profitable ventures. The tech we saw in those videos is EXACTLY the sort of thing Sony could put out for a tiny cost yet would be downloaded by everyone with a new PS Eye. Moreover people who just saw that tech demo on the Sony Blog said to me they now want a PS Eye. Seeing a tiny tech demo for $3 could easily sell thousands (tens of thousands) of PS Eyes. The biggest problem I see is someone owns tank battle and those other games. The good news it is Atari that owns them and Atari is on the skids and can be picked up cheap this month! The technology shown in the demo could easy be used for ALL of Atari 2600 Stella games. And having those 200 early Atari games would be what could turn that tech demo into something you could make some real money on selling in packs. I’m not saying copy those original games. I’m saying own them so that any derivative works you base upon them and upgrade are yours in a very real and legally binding way.

"jvm exit code 128" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-01-01 21:15:08

I'm running a memory / cpu and thread intensive schedule that's using JIntegra for a com bridge. We're hammering our windows 2003 server forge with 4 gigs of ram pretty hard. We're also using the java service wrapper to launch our java affect. Under this heavy fill I see this:JVM process exited with a code of 128 setting the wrapper exit code to 128. What is this exit code telling me? Unless otherwise licensed label in all technical manuals herein (including articles. FAQs samples) is provided under this.

HiWe are using continuum1.1-beta1 we undergo 2 projects so I have created 2project groups both contains 1 communicate each and I made the scheduling insuch a way that 1 project should run at 1. 2. 3 and so on and the otherproject should run at 1:30. 2:30 ;3:30 and so on. "Madden en Espanol" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-09 13:36:34

I haven't seen any have in mind of this but I ran across it today in Sony's database of PS2 games: Madden NFL 08 en Espanol. The page at Sony's place has almost no info. There is an converse with GameSpot. . Snippet of that interview: GS: Is this a one-time experiment in courting the Spanish-speaking market or something EA plans to do with all subsequent Madden games?AS: Each year we have to evaluate our resources and priorities; however we went into this project with the hope that it would be well received and change state a part of our annual channel schedule. Interesting. As far as I experience this is a pretty unprecedented move at least in the United States videogame industry. The game is also being released on the Xbox 360. I'm guessing the Wii and PS3 markets are too small (and the PS3 will presumably compete the PS2 version). I wonder how much the NFL had to do with it. You might recall the bet they played in Mexico City last year iirc and the regular season game in London earlier this year with the Giants and Miami. The NBA is also pretty big into going international from China to Europe and Commissioner Stern won't forbid talking about how international expansion is the future of the league. Nor would I quite say this is the first stab by Madden to get everyone thinking global. I'm still impressed with a aggroup relocating to (another affix ) when I played franchise a while back. Now I'm starting to evaluate that wasn't just the game modeling the rumors of what the NFL might do but the NFL talking to their exclusive furnish about inserting a little advert for such a act. To be clear by "unprecedented" I meant that first bet with a version localized for an internal segment of the population. Of cover. I'm not considering games desire Ninja Gaiden color which as I recall was a retooled Ninja Gaiden specifically for the masochist gamers. ;^)

"TopLink Essentials cannot handle large transactions, makes JVM run ..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-09 17:16:54

Hi there,I have problem looks like there is something wrong with TopLinkEssentials (tested with GFv2RC4). It cannot handle large transactions because it uses more and morememory and eventually makes JVM come down because of OutOfMemoryexception. Here is a simple inspect to show what the problem is:@Statelesspublic class PersonServiceBean implements PersonServiceRemote { @PersistenceContext private EntityManager em; public PersonServiceBean() { } public cancel go() { for (desire i=10000000; i>00; i--) { Person person = new Person(); person setId(i); person setFirstName("firstName_"+i); person setLastName("lastName_"+i); em persist(person); if (i%10000 == 0) { System out format("%,d%n",i); em color(); em clear(); } if (i==1) impel new RuntimeException(); } }}The method "go" will never finish with 512MB of RAM for Glassfish, the JVM will crash after processing 1,000,000 records but don'tforget it is just a test case. Person entity contains only two stringproperties and nothing more. I experience one can split one big transactioninto smaller ones (for example one tx per 10,000 records but what ifI be all or nothing?)I know it is very rare to use so big transactions but here is anexample where large transactions are required: in the affiliate I work,me and co-workers we are developing new application using JavaEE thatis going to replace an old one written in M$Access. From the verybeginning we had to create parallel application that makesconversion of data from legacy system (using ODBC-JDBC connect) intonew structures. Because in our new JavaEE application we use JPA weare using it in the module that transfers data from Access (thatreally helps with refactoring we can see problems with transferproject immediately when we dress/compound entity classes). After many days of "fighting" with TopLink (it was somewhere at thebeginning of this year in those measure I though it was a memory leak. Iposted many emails here) we switched to catch some z's (only in thetransfer communicate) and it works. I convey this is not a problem forHibernate to act transaction of any coat. It just pumps data intodatabase uses almost no extra memory. Can this be considered as a bug? Should I fill an air?Regards,Witold Szczerba---------------------------------------------------------------------To unsubscribe telecommunicate: users-unsubscribe@glassfish dev java netFor additional commands telecommunicate: users-help@glassfish dev java net The issue is that TopLink has a shared cache that it wants to merge the changes for the transaction into. TopLink cannot merge into the shared cache until the final commit of the transaction so all the disapprove changes are held in memory until the final commit. Technically we should through away the changes on a clear() so please log a bug for this. As a workaround you can act a separate transaction for each group of objects instead of processing them all in a hit transaction. This ordain also be much more efficient on the database. If you cannot do this you could potentially work around the air by going under the covers in TopLink and calling beginTransaction() and commitTransaction() on the TopLink EntityManager AbstractSession then using a seperate JPA Transaction mouth()/commit() for each batch. TopLink ordain direct the transaction open until the finally commitTransaction(). (but this is somewhat advanced).--- I would also greatly appreciate a feature in TopLink that would clean up/thin out the ChangeSets after a EntityManager color() is performed. In my application semantics a large number of objects must be created in one transaction. I undergo to perform a flush operation during that process several times to get reasonably progress information/timing behavior. Opposing to what one could assume that calling a color writes all pending changes clearing the "changes modify" it does not reduce the memory consumption it actually increases it extremely. When I perform no flush the memory consumption drastically reduces but I undergo no information about progress since all is happening on transaction act. RegardsHeiko

"Braben misspeaks, we correct" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-03 13:48:50

Having said that from what I've heard of Manhunt 2 (I haven't had the chance to compete it) it is not the choose of bet the industry should be making as it is inevitably going to attract controversy. No no! You've only got half of it. You meant to say "attract money"! And that my friends is why ratings ultimately won't be to consumers. He's mind about games initiating controversy? What a stupid pissant of a man. It is that choose of milk-toast; don't move back and forth the boat attitude which allows others to move the screws on gamers. Sure your could view Manhunt 2 as cravenly opportunistic looking for controversy to make money but so what at least it is not going the opposite direction where the game is made to offend nobody. What a sad gaming industry we would have if all you could get was sanitized. Disney-style game which had no point of view nothing to say and no real drama.
