Normally. I'd use the add/shift programs to do it but I can't. When I go to move on J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Updates there is no remove button to move on. Is there another way I can remove it?
The Windows Installer CleanUp Utility does not perform the following functions:• shift Windows Installer• Remove files of any programs that are installed by Windows Installer such as Microsoft Office 2003The Windows Installer CleanUp Utility does act the following functions:• Provides a dialog box in which you can decide one or more programs that were installed by Windows InstallerTo do this select the programs that you want in the Installed Products enumerate in the Windows Installer CleanUp dialog box. After you alter this selection the utility removes only the Windows Installer configuration information that is related to those programs.• Removes the files and registry settings that alter up the Windows Installer configuration information for programs that you select

Compare that "list" to which versions appear in Add/Remove Programs. affix approve with the results. Christer
There was a similar go a few weeks ago: in which the resolution was to uninstall all versions in the reverse request from Add/shift Programs and when all cleared lay the latest version. The problem here seems to be "orphaned" entries in Add/Remove Programs and I be TinyTuba822 to confirm that they all are "orphaned" or which one(s) are. When you lay a new version of Java it is in most cases intended to change by reversal a security air. Most (?) people just install the new version on top of the previous version(s) and they stack up in Add/shift Programs. I wonder if the security issue is corrected if the previous version(s) is/are left installed? I recommend my own procedure to always uninstall the previous version (through Add/Remove Programs) prior to installing the new version. Christer
Definitely not - I have had notice from Secunia Software Inspector of vulnerabilities in earlier versions of Java - which were still installed on running their examine change surface though the latest version was installed. This was resolved by uninstalling the earlier versions. I recommend that everyone should sign up to for email notifications of when their vulnerability database has been revised so that a fresh scan can be made and updates applied if necessary.

Re: Sun J2SE JRE distribution

~Ray <dforums@hotmail.com>

Fri, 09 Nov 2007 17:17:29 -0500

I've searched a while for a suitable category to post this under but coming up with empty-handed I hope you won't object I post this here. I have a currently 'hypothetical' question about the distrbution of Sun's J2SE JRE. The license and README states that you're free to distribute the JRE yourself if you keep it intact if it's used to give the bulge of your program and more importantly if you lay it on general-purpose personal computers or servers. Now let's say that you create a certain software case based on Java and let's say that you demand Sun's JRE for whatever reason and you give it along with it. So far no problem I can see... Now let's say that you do something like explore with their explore Appliance (or what it's called) and give your software as a PC-based hardware product with the software on it but comfort as an open general-purpose PC/server. That should still be OK no?Let's say you add hooks into your software case with RMI or a similar technology and expose the API so your customers will be able to fasten into your software and therefore your 'device' as described in the previous carve up. This seems all perfectly valid and would actually encourage Java use. Now let's say you be to obtain your own product and obtain and you change state down the hardware device to something the customer can't manipulate (so it's no longer command intend) but the software still performs what it's meant to do and the library hooks are still there. So other than closing drink the hardware (by software means or whatever is obtainable) for increased reliability and the likes. If you do that change state down the hardware then in fact you undergo moved away from 'general-purpose' PC/server hardware. In theory the hardware is still general-purpose but in practice it isn't. So in that case you start violating the distribution terms of the JRE no?I'm seeking for some clarity on this be. Would one be allowed to do everything described here? Or would a specific authorise from Sun be required or should one flock to a future fully free JVM/JRE for these purposes?
