I have a question that may have a simple answer that eludes me. I created a Java update VBScript that updates a computer from 1.3 to 1.5 for a customer. The update script works just fine and it calls the uninstall engine and then an MSI. The customer then requested a rollback script. I have the uninstall working fine in that script for 1.5 but 1.3 installs with an executable. This causes a prompt to run (standard security warning) because it’s firing off an EXE. Is there a way to suppress these dialogs from appearing using VBScript or another means? Once I get past this last issue the scripts are ready to go. Hi we use MSI-Technology to distribute J2RE. The Problem ist wehen downgrading from 1.5.0_XX to 1.4.2_XX. It doesnt work. When installing 1.4.2_XX an 1.5.0_XX and after that deinstalling 1.5.0_XX. 1.4.2_XX doesnt work and it not get recognized at the sun testpage. The downgrade from 1.6.0_XX to 1.5.0_XX makes no problems. Also when i reinstall 1.4.2_XX with the original exe ist makes no problems but when installing per MSI after deinstall 1.5.0_XX it doesn´t work. "Doesn´t work" means: The applet is not recodnized at and also from all internal java applications. But i can see the icon in the control adorn and i can open and configure it. When i lay 1.4.2_XX with the msi againt the problem remanins when i install with the exe register the problem disappear. for example: Installing 1.4.2_03_XX then installing 1.5.0_XX. After that downgrading that means deinstal of 1.5.0_XX than 1.4.2_XX doesn´t work. When i try the same with the original java-exe_File (not with the msi as before) it works without problems. The problem be with any versions from 1.4.2 and 1.5.0 so i think there ist a difference between installing java with the MSI-File and the EXE-File. Maybe the deinstallation of 1.5.0_XX deregister some dlls from 1.4.2_XX? I don´t know but there are some knowledge locate articels an the sun homepage with similar problems deinstallaing 1.4.2_XX and after that 1.3.1 doesn´t work. I hope you understand what i convey although my english ist not so good. I´m from german and i responsable for distributing the Java applet for app. 30.000 Clients. Thanks a lot. Michael In situations like this where my install results in an inoperative applications which then gets fixed by running the vendor's install. I always do the same thing - I just capture the difference. I don't use the MSI authoring tool for that but a snapshot utility called In hold back. This produces a text or HTML register of the differences. You can obviously use your own tool which records file & registry changes. So: - run your MSI - start the snapshot tool - run the vendor lay - add the *relevant* differences to your MSI _____________________________Don't experience why 'x' happened?
