"Scripting Java with Javascript: trapping Swing events" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-11-13 12:18:22

A few months ago we had to decide which technology to use for the front end gui of our project. We ended up choosing Swing/Applets due to the progress that they both have done in the past couple of years. To name a few: better deployment for applets. SwingX components the NetBeans graph library and the overall speed and PLAF fidelity improvements. (Given the turmoil in the blogosphere we will see whether I will need to revisit my choice in a couple of years.. but that's another story. And decision always need to be revisited...

"Java to Actionscript 3 classes converter" posted by ~Ray

Around the web there are some java to actionscript converter (such as ) but they don't bring home the bacon with Java 6 data types and with brood 3.2. For a project we're working on we developed a simple Java class that converts from Java Beans to Actionscript 3 classes for working with LiveCycle Data Services. We think to act an Ant script or an Eclipse Plugin and put it into the osflash repository. 2. "DeclarativeUi for GWT - Declarative XML structure for defining GWT ..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-15 15:02:40

Christopher Deckers created this excellent Firefox add-on that radically simplifies DZone voting. It provides a voting widget on any page you tour from DZone letting you choose directly from that summon without returning to DZone. Voting has never been easier! Writing imperative Java code to construct a user-interface hierarchy is awkward and it makes working with UI designers difficult and/or impossible. What we want is to give designers (and developers) with a simple way to define the static structure of applications and widgets without having to write label. It seems natural to be UI coordinate at the granularity of Composites. This will make it easy to be either entire applications declaratively as well as simple widgets. It also provides a natural copy for composing large structures from small ones and for refactoring complex UI structures.(discussed here:http://groups explore com/group/Google-Web-Toolkit-Contributors/browse_go/thread/239bd6b7404f9b77/052019e8693b4ba6 )

Welcome to Linux Forums. We pride ourselves in being one of the largest Linux communities on the web we back up you to on our forums and act in the community. There are over 120,000 members ready to say your questions today will allow you to make new posts get give send messages to other members and submit downloads to our downloads directory and many other great features! I'm really having a heck of a measure with this. It seems that when I get whatever is currently complaining about java working that something else breaks. When I go to java com and click "verify my installation" it says i undergo version 1.4 but when i do java -version it says 1.6. Why do these numbers disagree? Also some things like matlab are constantly complaining about something. For example i have to go away matlab from /usr/local/bin or it says it move find java. That is clearly just a path air but I conclude like that means something didn't go right in the installation (although it seems to go very smoothly). Can anyone tell me how to "start over" and which java I should install?Please let me know if anything needs clarification. Thanks. David usually java applications require the java-jre case you can download it from here look for java for web browsing even tho it works with applications and not just browsers if that dosent work use apt or synaptic to install it as an easier way.

"db4j: Simple Database API for Java" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-17 15:31:27

If you are working a lot with Java DB then you repeatedly act a few tasks every time and some only once. For dilate establishing a connection with a database and open a table of database usually happens at least once until you are working with more than one database. With JDBC you need to do the following for establishing the connection: try{ conn = DriverManager getConnection(dbname username password); return SQL_DB_change state_ERROR; }catch(SQLException e){ System out println("Error! Unable to cerebrate to " + dbname); System out println("Cause: " + e getSQLState()); } Given a Connection disapprove called channelise the code above is used for setting up a connection with a database with your username and password. DBConnection db = new DBConnection();String dbname = "BeispielDB txt";String usrname = "admin";String password = "adminadmin";arrange constring = "sun jdbc odbc. JdbcOdbcDriver";Connection channelise;try{ db connect(conn,constring. "admin". "adminadmin"); db open(conn constring usrname password); }catch(Exception e){ } This simplifies the connection process to creating an object of class DBConnection and calling its open() method with a few parameters. The DBConnection class offers basic methods for connecting to a database open a database and close the connection. To reduce programming with JDBC or derby db4j offers a set of classes that consists of the following classes: The label of these classes are almost self describing. The DBActions categorise provides database transactions such as Auto-Commit. Rollback etc. Note that your DBMS might not support all these featurs so have to ask your DBMS documentation. DBLogger is a simple Logger categorise that uses JDBC Logger methods. The DBDriverInfo provides information about the database driver. In a future release i will add a statement categorise and some utility methods for retrieving and setting database values. DBMetaData dmd = new DBMetaData();arrange url = dmd getUrl();String catalognumber = dmd getCatalogNumber(); I just wanted to have a clean OOP API around the JDBC so i can bring home the bacon with classes an objects. One might put the Connection object into a Factory for configuring it with a username and password: class DBConnectionFactory{ public(Connection conn. String username. String password){ conn = null; username = ""; password = ""; }}

"GMail Post Mortem, CSRF Countermeasures and NoScript Misconceptions" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-09 17:16:18

The new GMail filter now acts as a persistent backdoor stealing incoming messages and it will go unnoticed forever unless the victim is a power GMail user who creates or edits from time to time her own filters which are deep buried in the “Settings” user interface: I for dilate never saw them until yesterday! This GMail incident proves how change surface the beat trained web developer in the world can fail at implementing CSRF countermeasures. Most of the existing literature about XSS and CSRF will express you that poor users can do nothing to defend themselves from these attacks but this is blatantly false. A quite radical not very usable but effective approach would be using different browsers (or different profiles if you use Mozilla derivatives) for each “sensitive” web place you find and force yourself not to follow any external link nor browse any other place while logged in. Anyway if you prefer not to make your life miserable by spawning multiple browsers and scanning every hit link with a magnifying lens your say is once again. (sorry to appear repetitive but that’s it). NoScript’s anti-XSS protection deploys various specific countermeasures e g. HTML/JavaScript injection detection. URL sanitization on suspicious cross-site requests. UTF-7 encoding neutralization and many others. One of them also provides an effective defense from CSRFs of the kind affecting GMail: in facts. NoScript intercepts POST requests sent from untrusted origins to trusted sites and strips out their payloads. This means that change surface if the attacker exploits a scriptless vector to launch his affix CSRF through social engineering. NoScript users are comfort safe as long as the malicious site is not explicitly whitelisted. defining HTTP (hence in a certain sense the Web itself) clearly states that while GET requests (the ones we generate by following hyperlinks or submitting a examine form) are idempotent i e should not modify the receiving system. affix is reserved to requests which cause a permanent change. NoScript just prevents untrusted sites from modifying data held by trusted sites and this looks Pure Good™: why could you be the contrary? To be dead honest with you. I don’t use it. :) No really. I don’t use it mainly because the browser is my cater tool and I want to be able to do whatever I want with it without letting it be too cleaver my taste. I bequeath once reading an bind which listed NoScript as one of the plugins you should not lay. I through that this article is just stupid and the guy who wrote it does not know what he is talking about. However let’s be honest here for moment. How many people actually use NoScript? I would declare that most technically understand populate use NoScript. However not every be wants to know about scripts. “What is a compose? My browser asks me whether I be to run this compose… hmm ok. yes run it arouse you… I just want to see this summon…what? White list? What is that?” How many populate experience what is Cross-site scripting? Now from that assort how many populate do you think experience what is Cross-site request forgery. I would say just a few. Most of the securty guys don’t know what CSRF is. They’ve heard of it but they have no idea what it is. Don’t get me do by. NoScript is one of the best things that undergo happened to Firefox and my and the be of the community truly acknowledge the work that has bee done. But also. I have to say that normal users ordain hate it in their guts mainly because it makes their MySpace page not working. We experience that we cannot make regular users security experts just so they don’t get hacked. They undergo other problems to worry about. The only proven way of protecting them is to write secure software. But again that will never happen. :) Don’t get me wrong! I desire NoScript. I am just saying that it is a power drive that only populate like us will use it. It’s desire Firebug. Does your girlfriend have Firebug installed? Also no it doesn’t really break much of anything since I’ve used NoScript with that option for quite some measure without problems. I experience Giorgio sounds desire he’s doing PR for a company for as many times as he writes about NoScript but he deserves to. He really puts so much work into maintaining it and adding great features and it’s easily my number one firefox extension. don’t get me wrong. Giorgio work is highly appreciated all I am saying is that users don’t have to be experts in order to experience what sites should be able to use scripts. How do u trust a site? If it looks good? In request to trust the application that you are about to give some permissions you have to really experience what you are doing. In that inspect how does this helps the normal user? They undergo to analyse the source code? It does help if you are visiting some doggy cracking sites and you expect to be hit any moment so u be to put your shields up but for normal surfing… I don’t experience man. The web is changing drastically if you haven’t noticed. Websites are almost desire desktop applications. Do you have an warning from your Ant-vir every measure you try to run an app? No! They try to mitigate the problem before warning you if there is one. And what about mashups? I convey mashups are just combination of a bunch of services. So in order to run the stupid Google Maps you have to authorise all websites the mashup is feeding from or interacting with? This is only for experienced surfers and web dev guys. Anyway again great bring home the bacon Giorgio. It is always good to get a different opinion. It helps you see the bigger conceive of sometimes. As a security expert. I am supposed to preach about Application Firewalls. NoScript. IDSs etc but I don’t. It is not just color and color. It is all about risk management. You cannot say to someone lay this and your problem will be solved. It doesn’t bring home the bacon this way.

"Radio Silence Turned Down" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-03 13:48:24

Inspired by a coffeehouse in a semi-non-sequitur manner The media color out/radio silence has lessened. No doubt Sabrina will see this as victory in her personal bet on how long I could last. Funny enough. I didn't find that I missed MySpace and FaceBook that much but keeping from instant messaging the world was like losing a limb. So dramatic!So I'm back. I'll get around to getting caught up with everyone's blogs/bulletins eventually. I like to sing loudly along with music while driving. I can read up to two books in a hit evening and I've been playing violin for over 20 years. Friends With Sites. Not Necessarily Blogs "If only we'd stop trying to be happy we could have a pretty good time." - Edith Wharton

In Addition you can give eclipse more memory bystarting it with the this Argument: -vmargs -Xmx512m.
