"Answers.com Extends Deadline For Lexico Acquisition by 48 Days ..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-11-13 12:19:44

Another sign that Answers com () may not be able to complete its $100 million acquisition of Lexico (parent of Dictionary com) .. in a with the SEC this morning the company said that it has extended the original 180-day deadline (from July 13. 2007) by 48 days to 228. In return for the longer wait. Lexico will get a $500,000 reimbursement if the deal falls through up from the previously agreed $400,000. Answers can’t complete the deal unless it can raise the funds up to a planned $140 million which it said it would do through common stock preferred stock debt and warrants. So far though the company hasn’t made much progress towards this goal. The company’s share count is exactly where it was when the plan was first announced suggesting no share sales and its recent confirms that it’s done little or no other financing activity since then. A couple weeks after the original announcement. Answers announced that it had taken a major hit due to an algorithm change at Google. Between that and the tightened credit markets it’s easy to understand the hold up. No one is going to fund a company as badly managed as Answers to overpay on a deal (even a deal that valuation aside would make great sense for them). Only a matter of time before someone else snaps Lexico up eating the inconsequential break-up fee if necessary and prob for a lower price. According to Quantcast. Answers com is doing quite well. And according to Comscore for the first nine months of this year. Answers com’s WikiAnswers unique monthly visitor count in the U. S has grown 317% to over four million. This ranks WikiAnswers as the second-fastest growing domain of the top 1,500. I’m sorry but the business is not doing well by any measure. 3Q earnings anemic. Etc. If a company with “24M monthly uniques” (US) and “133M monthly pages” can’t make hay in this market then something is very wrong. The truth is that John C. Smith (and likely Stone and cometogether) are with FunAdvice a competitor of Answers com’s WikiAnswers Q&A;site. They no doubt carry a heavy bias. Don’t believe everything you read on the internet folks. Answers announced departure of its “Chief Revenue Officer” shortly after they announced the Lexico buy saying it was seeking a COO - so who was running the store before? Mouthpiece now is the “Chief Strategy Officer” its ex-IR guy. CROs and CSOs? Give me a break. It will NOT get a $140M floatation to buy a bigger better company when itself is now valued at just $50M; and as John Smith reports no one on Madison Avenue wants to give AD $ to a less than vibrant site/portal even with “24M uniques etc”. Nor the Publishing World thru partnerships. Current Cash is $7M but net of the $.5M Lexico break-up fee and leaving $2M for severance and wind-up cash they really only have $4M of operating cash. Answers will go bust by YE 08: someone will buy patents for $20 or $30M. Chalk-it-up to bad branding and failed management/leadership.

"Johnson extends "Listening Tour"" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-23 15:44:17

Mayoral candidate Ken Johnson is continuing his listening tour this week. “I’ll be in the Cedar Lake area of govern 2 on Saturday. govern 2 has quite a few burning issues- not just downtown but police fire and education. A number of parents are expressing concern about the K-8 and school building plans. I want to hear more. ”He has expanded his listening journey to include conversations with city leaders and department heads having already met with the police chief fire chief purchasing agent and director of public works. “This week. I had great conversations with Glenn Klocko. Jonathan Rosenthal and Ed Swicklas gaining insight on the issues and listening to their ideas for the future of Bristol. Ed’s excited about the planned improvements to Rockwell lay and so am I. The superintendent of schools is next on my radar.”So far Johnson and his team undergo knocked on about 4000 doors. “The reception has been great. I had people offer me wet on hot days. Last week on a 95 degree and humid day a woman on Rambler Rd invited me to act a dip in her pool. I stuck my arms in but I’ll adjudge diving in was tempting.”*******Contact Steve Collins at scollins@bristolpress com Who's Ken Johnson? All I see are signs for Art Ward.. come on Kenny boy - gentleman schmentalman - get the signs up already for crissakes. I see you and the wife have 'em on your cars - why aren't they on lawns yet? Who cares about what you listen to - who's listening to your message any one? the old follow in the RTC? Time for those boys and Capitan Art (not Ward. Mockery)to close up shop as well. Apparently Mr. cut into as most of the Republicans are unaware of the gentleman's agreement between the two parties that signs should not be posted until one month out from the election. I'm not saying Art hasn't disregarded this agreement but I don't see the point in him taking his signs drink just to have to put them up in a month. However. I undergo seen Republican council candidate signs springing up. There's no need to look at those for the next two months. There will be so many this year that I don't accept people want to have to see them for two months. One month is plenty. Since Art's are up. Johnson should put his up but I think the councilpeople should keep theirs drink until one month out just my opinion. Actually when it was declared unconstitutional to limit the amount of time signs were up there was a "gentleman's agreement" between the two parties but you must be a Republican because you folks don't abide by the agreement anyway. There should be some signs so populate know who is running but there should be a be placed on how many signs each candidate can put up otherwise it's ridiculous! Here we go again. Now were going to try and make a big deal out of the signs air. It is true that Art protect and Ellen Zoppo needed to put them up for the primary. Now that Zoppo is out Johnson should have his signs up since Ward's signs are all over the city. Ward said recently that he had change surface more on order for after the primary. Has he stopped putting up additional signs since the primary? I know that I undergo seen new ones pop up around my area. Maybe populate were just waiting until after the primary to choose which Democratic candidate they are supporting but there still are more. What about the Independent candidates? Do they have a "gentlemen's agreement?"
