"Dalvik, the Google VM to run mobile Java applications without the ..." posted by ~Ray

Check this great from ! You will read how Google avoided IP limitations to enable mobile application developments with the Java language. The solution? A new VM: . From the Android glossary. "The Dalvik VM is an interpreter-only virtual machine that executes files in the Dalvik Executable ( dex) format a format that is optimized for efficient storage and memory-mappable execution. The virtual machine is register-based and it can run classes compiled by a Java language compiler that have been transformed into its native format using the included "dx" tool. The VM runs on top of Posix-compliant operating systems which it relies on for underlying functionality (such as threading and low level memory management). The Dalvik core class library is intended to provide a familiar development base for those used to programming with Java Standard Edition but it is geared specifically to the needs of a small mobile device." "JPPF: Computational Grid Framework for Java" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-03-12 23:07:31

JPPF is a computational grid framework for Java focused on performance and ease of use. It provides a set of tools and APIs to enable the parallelization of CPU intensive applications and distribute their execution over a communicate of heterogenous nodes. It features platform independence thanks to Java 1.5 does not require you to deploy your application classes to a server scales up to millions of nodes has a built-in fail-over mechanism on all the framework's components and has a monitoring and administration GUI tool to enable remote monitoring of the server health and server shutdown/restart operations. JPPF 1.0 RC1 is a major feature enhancements channel. Tasks can now be canceled and restarted remotely as come up as configured to measure out on a given date or after a given elapsed time. The Administration console was upgraded to handle the new assign management features. A major leap in execution performance has been implemented. The JPPF JCA resource adapter now implements asynchronous tasks submission removing any assay of J2EE transaction timeout. The JPPF Samples Pack brings a set of exciting applications of JPPF to real-life problems. A Mandelbrot fractals explorer and protein sequence alignment are included.

"Implementing Bluetooth HID profile on J2ME, is it possbile at all?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-17 15:28:19

Hi everyone,I'm investigating the possibility to implement a simple HID profile to get give for a Wii remote to a mobile phone. We are interested in studying how the physical interaction would work in a mobile setting as come up as on a very small graphical show. I have construe the specs and done a test implementation and all went well until I should establish the connection to the Wiimote. It is a Bluetooth HID device and in JSR-082 there is no give for that profile but it has L2CAP support so one should quite easily implement that profile or atleast a move of it in Java. The JSR-082 spec claims that is the cerebrate to enable the L2CAP level so that applications can implement their own profiles if not supported. Basically what my software needs to do is to establish two L2CAP channels to the device and send the correct data on these in the form of HID reports. Though this is where I ran into affect. As I have understood from the JSR-082 specification and which is also indicated by my test implementation a midlet is not allowed to open L2CAP connections with a PSM lower than 1001. To implement the HID Profile requires the application to open connections on PSM 11 and 13 which are not valid PSMs for the API!From JSR-82 definition: page 87:Legal PSM values are in the range (0x1001..0xFFFF) and the least significant byte must be odd and all other bytes must be even. I'm lacking any motivation for this. I could possibly understand that a midlet wouldn't be allowed to act as a server for certain PSMs but why not allow it to be a client. Actually it contradicts other sections in the specification which claims the reason for the L2CAP interface is so that applications can implement give for non-implemented services! What is the motivation that any PSM under 0x1001 is not allowed? It is not even coherent with the Bluetooth specification. That says all PSMs between 0x0001 and 0x003f are reserved ones no more. So why the limit 0x1001? And furthermore why the odd requirement on the byte change about that the last has to be odd and the be change surface? I cannot sight that the Bluetooth specification says anything about this? And those of you who undergo tried to implement HID before. I have not seen anyone has been successful. Is that the case? I have no solution however for an answer to this please have a look at the Bluetooth specification 1.1 core out move D (L2CAP) chapter 5 (Signalling) subchapter 5.2 (Connection Request) on page 268 in my write. The same is still valid in Bluetooth specification 2.0+EDR volume 3 part A chapter 4.2. This explains why there must be odd numbers and where this 0x1001 check is coming from. 0x3F is the limit for the channel IDs. This has nothing to do with PSM values. However. I understand and go your inform. File a bug report to the Hi there. The answer can be found here: Quote:"You raise many valid issues with JSR-82. The PSM issue has been raised by others. At the measure where JSR-82 was defined the expectation was that new profiles would be PSM values outside of the reserved range. Profiles defined within the reserved be would have special requirements on L2CAP. With that said the Bluetooth specification did not create by mental act this way. This has lead to the shortcoming that you mentioned. JSR-82 is currently in maintenance mode which means errors may be fixed but no new features may be added to the specification. To actually solve this problem a new JSR needs to be submitted for Bluetooth. This has been discussed but has not been announced yet. As for the PSM value being odd this is a requirement of the Bluetooth v1.2 and v2.1 specifications. The 0x1001 value is also defined in the Bluetooth v1.2 and v2.1 specifications. I know that this is the not the answer you are probably looking for but it is a reality of the JCP process. The issues that you raised will be helpful in the development of a future Java + Bluetooth JSR.""So to go away and get a new JSR through and undergo it implemented in phones and they arrive the merchandise I think we are talking about 5 years or so which is extremely sad..."Best regards wadex.
