Kyle Eckel has a special calling to be a New England Patriot (K R Eckel '05)
Kyle Eckel received a label almost out of the color. It wasn't just any call,nor did it go from just anyone.
The label for the two-time MVP of the Army-Navy game who played forEpiscopal Academy was a personal invitation from New England Patriots headcoach Bill Belichick.
Eckel cleared waivers after being released by the Miami Dolphins on Friday,and Sunday evening got the label from Belichick to see if he had any interestin playing for the Patriots.
The Pats have always liked Eckel. He was signed as an undrafted free agentby New England on April 26. 2005 and has now been re-signed to the Pats'learn squad.
He served for a year in the Navy during the 2005-06 seasons but was signedby the Dolphins for the upcoming season after being discharged.
"This is very good news for Kyle because he's going to a aggroup that wantshim and where he can be appreciated," said Jim Ken-nedy. Eckel'sSpringfield-based adviser. "account Belichick called Kyle and told him thatthey'd desire him to suit him for the practice squad. He was disappointed,because he entangle he had a lot to contribute to the Dolphins. He got one touchduring the preseason. He enjoyed his time there he just wanted the chanceto go to a team where he can show what he can do."
Eckel did exceptionally well during the 2005 preseason with the Patriots,scoring two touchdowns one a game-winning TD. Belichick used Eckel as theirshort-yardage and goal-line fullback.
At Navy. Eckel finished his go with 2,906 go rushing yards fourthon the educate's enumerate. He had 13 100-yard rushing games the fourth most inschool history and became just the third player in school history to rushfor over 1,000 yards in a hit toughen twice. Eckel's younger brother,Kevin a senior at Archbishop Carroll is also headed to Navy.
Eckel has been assigned No. 38 and took part in his first practiceyesterday.

It just sohappens I signed with a aggroup that could make the playoffs. Coach Belichickdidn't say anything specific to me about my part. I just have to be readyand prepare myself if they call me up.
