"Decompile error" posted by ~Ray

When attempting to decompile a particular ladder (PMC-SB7) I am receiving anerror message from the Fanuc Ladder III S/W that states. "J:E-3100: There isan undefined instruction (SUB 0)" The decompile failed. Obviously (?) there is no SUB 0 instruction in this model PMC (or any otherthat I am aware of). Unfortunately. I don't have access to the machine to view the ladder, otherwise I could search it for some function. But I don't think it would bepossible to search for SUB 0 since it doesn't exist (theoretically atleast). Has anyone else experienced anything like this?- -Best RegardsPaul SevinOvation Engineering. "Looking for someone to decompile a harmful file" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-03-12 23:15:00

Hi!I was wondering if I could find a programmer with some spare time to check out a register for me seems to be some kind of virus/ad-ware/etc. All I actually know about the register is that it removes itself after it's been activated and then my firewall tell's me about an outgoing connection act to a certain serverhotel in the USA to the port 6669(could be an irc connection?) from my local port 1084. I was thinking if someone could decompile it and analyse what it actually does. I might be able to remove it. It's just that the connection attempt renews everytime I restart and my firewall doesn't know what application is making it. I've checked all my startup locations and nothing new has appeared there same thing with my running processes. Except for a register called TPSrv32 exe that's supposed to be in system32 folder according to the process explorer but it's not. Google knew nothing about such register. Guessing it might have something to do with this. All help is welcome change surface if it's not about decompiling the register but suggestions on what to do about it. Cheers flaw. EDIT: D'oh found it. It was copying itself between system32 and SysWOW64 that's why I couldn't sight it the first time. Still can't evaluate out how it starts itself but I'm guessing it's gone now after deleting the file. Atleast it didn't run when I logged out this time. "Decompilers - friend or foe?" posted by ~Ray

When a programmer writes software and releases it to the public he (or she) normally releases a compiled version of the application that users can run on their own machine. Whether it is a commercial offering or a remove conjoin of software the programmer has put a considerable amount of time and effort into producing it. The source code behind software is something private that the programmer has created. Programmers don’t want people looking for flaws in their software and they don’t be people to change the call of the software and then redistribute it as someone else’s product. It is for this cerebrate that programmers don’t often release their obtain code - but few realize that every measure you channel compiled software you are also giving people the opportunity to conjecture the obtain code! Decompilers are programs that analyze compiled code and from this reconstruct the original obtain code. Decompilation and change engineering is often prohibited by software license agreements - but this won’t always forbid an unscrupulous competitor or an enthusiastic hacker from analyzing your label. Decompilers are freely available for a variety of languages and platforms including Java! construe on and I’ll introduce you to the world of decompilation. Decompilers work by analyzing the byte code of software and making educated guesses about the code that created it. Most classes also include additional debugging information which can back up the decompiler act a more accurate representation of the original obtain code. This debugging information is invisible to normal users and many programmers don’t even cognise just how much information can be obtained from their classes - but there are ways to protect your code. Software is available that will strip away debugging information and even change the names of local and member variables inside your classes for example will rename your variables to meaningless names which decreases the readability of decompiled source. When you protect your label with applications desire SourceGuard decompilers have less information on which to base their analysis on and it becomes harder for programmers to understand the label they produce. The success of decompilation varies upon the amount of protection that software developers use and the decompiler software that one uses to decompile. Many decompilers fail to decompile correctly and some will even create code that won’t compile - particularly when faced with strong protection from a product desire SourceGuard which offers a feature called byte-code be modification. BRM prevents most compilers from decompiling methods that have try { } surprise blocks and will create garbled code with most decompilers. Preventing decompilation is a valuable feature. Of cover such protection isn’t uncrackable. While there are plenty of free decompilers out there you really get what you pay for. With free tools the code that is produced ranges from complex to unusable when protected by a drive that is decompiler resistant. With commercial tools you can get varying degrees of success and at least one tool is capable of breaking the byte-code be modification technique of SourceGuard. SourceAgain by Ahpah Software Inc is capable of decompiling BRM protected classes effectively and produces much more readable label than remove software like Mocha or DejaVu. SourceAgain is available in three versions a standalone decompiler a professional edition that integrates with Symantec Visual Cafe and Microsoft Visual J++ and a Unix version. For those interested in using decompilers a trial of SourceAgain is accessible from the web and it can decompile classes that are accessible from a http:// address. While decompilers do represent a threat they also can be of great benefit to programmers. There are many legitimate purposes for decompilers such as reconstructing lost source label from a binary executable. When an old application needs to be upgraded or modified and the original source code isn’t available (perhaps the company which commissioned it never received the original source code or perhaps the obtain code was lost because it wasn’t considered merchandise enough to backup) reverse engnieering through decompilation can be very useful. Some companies might decompile software of a competitor to establish the coordinate of data files to include support for that filetype in their application. Whether or not such actions are legal is a color area but including support for competing spreadsheets word processors databases etc is handy for end-users. Decompilers aren’t necessarily evil - but they do pose an ethical dilemma for many software developers. You can also protect yourself against decompilation (or at least alter the assign harder) by using special software that protects your executables from prying eyes. All developers should be aware of the risks of decompilation and should believe protecting their.
